I was born and raised in Memphis in a very loving and large extended family; my paternal grandparents had over 40 grandchildren.
__In 1976, I graduated from Ridgeway High School and have been a professional student ever since. I have been working at FedEx for 27 years and moved to Florida, Southern California, Nashville and ultimately back to Memphis.
__Though I don’t care much for the term, I am an activist. A good friend was diagnosed with AIDS in the mid-1980s and I first became active in volunteering at Nashville CARES. Subsequently I had a partner that was diagnosed and eventually died of an AIDS related illness.
__My current partner and I have been together almost 9 years, we own a home near the University of Memphis, and now have one dog, Gladys. In June, my dog Pugslie died after bringing 16 years of joy to my life.
__I’ve always tried to be a part of the solution instead of the problem. In order to do that, one must put himself up challenges and criticism. I believe that our community has a lot to offer and hope we are able to bring more diversity into the Center. |
